The Delstars: Peel Out With the Delstars

Here's the “latest” in the hot rod retro genre, which for all intents and purposes is just surf rock with engine noises spliced in and song titles with cubic-inch measurements not directly relating to body parts. “Peel Out” is downright revolutionary for this form, adding a clap track and lyrics that explore the complexity of the gear-head psyche (e.g., they rhyme “chick” with “dick”). Proving to be no one-trick ponies, “Last Wave” shows the Delstars' sensitive side: all swishy reverb, moonlit arpeggios, and oh-so-wistful whammy-bar minors.
